Pierluigi Di Chiaro, young IPCC member, receives prestigious award from the S.O.S Oncologia e Sociale

Recognized with the Oncology Research Prize for redefining the new “faces” of pancreatic cancer cells, paving the way for more precise and effective therapies

During the Charity Dinner organized by the S.O.S. Oncologia e Sociale , held on Friday, November 15, at Cascina San Carlo in Caravaggio, the research grant and four special mentions were presented as part of the 8th edition of the Oncology Research Prize promoted by the association.

The winner, Dr. Pierluigi Di Chiaro, is a researcher at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO). His research outlines how it is possible to give a face to the different pancreatic tumour cells:
“In this study,” explains Dr. Di Chiaro, “we identified several types of cancer cells with specific morphological and functional properties coexisting within each pancreatic tumor. Using this ‘profile,’ we can detect their presence in each individual patient and, with the help of artificial intelligence, predict the composition of the tumor. This approach will allow clinicians to choose the most appropriate combination of drugs for each patient.”
